How are you going with your New Year’s resolutions? I was told last night that we will be halfway through the month by next Monday and I immediately felt my anxiety rise as I fell into my masculine energy, quite quickly feeling into the sense of urgency that came with it. I reminded myself to step back and look at the bigger picture of my intention for the year. Some people choose a word for the year “joy”, “purpose”, “calm”, “achievement” this enables them to expand their focus and look at the bigger picture and be more guided to where they will get the best outcome with that intention in mind.
Sir Edmund Hilary famously quoted: “It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves,” and quite often, we may not be able to see the intention until we are looking in the rear view. Hilary and Norgay set out with the goal (or resolution if you like) of summiting Sagarmatha (Nepali translation of Mt Everest). They were the first people to achieve this goal and return to tell the tale but perhaps their intent may have been to “improve resilience”, “see it through”, “push my limits” or indeed ”self-discovery”. That intention could have guided them to the Sagarmatha National Park to achieve the seemingly impossible.
Setting goals is very direction (masculine energy) focused, whereas aligning with intention is focused on allowing (feminine energy) the direction to become clear through the process. It is lighter and it enables us to get curious and ttinker with the path that might best suit us. For example, you may have a goal of meditating for at least 15 minutes 4 times a week – it is very easy to fall short, and miss a weekly target, if instead you held the intention of “calm” you might think of things that will move you toward that and experiment with a few of them. Try a float tank, do a breathwork course, take a mindful walk in nature, focus on one thing at a time, hire a cleaner to take something you don’t enjoy off your list of things to do. When inspecting through the lens of curiosity we also learn more about ourselves and how we respond to changes which helps us connect with our true essence and intuition. Harnessing the feminine energy or intention and supporting it with the masculine energy or direction enables us to work with greater flow and focus.
When you are seeking change, dig a little deeper to work out the ultimate outcome you are looking for and this will uncover your intention. Ask a couple of questions of your resolutions and your intention will likely reveal itself.
Resolution : - To have a new job by April 2024
Why: I am sick of being underappreciated; Intention “find my tribe”
What: I hate the work I am doing; Intention “what is my purpose”
How: I want to work less hours; Intention “family time”
If you are looking to work more in flow and stay out of overwhelm in 2024, I invite you to join my Breathwork course to be held online starting on Friday 9th February. You will learn how the power of breath will allow you to achieve more with less effort in your professional and personal life.
