What Comes First - Commitment or Belief?

When faced with a seemingly insurmountable challenge to achieve if your leader believes you can do it. You will believe you can do it and those around you believe you can do it. There is a bloody good chance you will get there. I have seen it time and time again, if a team believes in themselves, they will commit themselves to GET IT DONE, they will achieve it because they believe it. In the words of an entrepreneur starting up a business with three colleagues who had mortgaged their homes on a venture “failure is not an option”.

Once you believe in the vision and the right people are with you, or more to the point the people with the right attitude are with you, you are half way there. You will make the vision the reality, you are committed, you are willing to do whatever it takes and support whoever you need to, to meet the goal. When you are committed you are willing to put in the work, do the actions to provide the service, you believe in what you are doing and you are determined to see the aspiration come to fruition. People will follow vision and values when they commit to them and the best way to get them committed, is to co-create the aspiration with the team determine the principals you are adhering to and reinvent the vision.

The amazing thing about belief is that it is contagious. If you have a leader who is charismatic enough or has enough conviction, then they will spur on the individuals who then spur on each other. Have you ever seen those evangelist preachers at work? That group of people will do anything for that preacher! Now I am not advocating starting a cult in the workplace, but you get my drift. Believing is contagious and it leads to commitment. Get everyone involved in developing the vision and guiding principals to get there and you will have their commitment. Once you have that the sky is the limit.
